Q&A with Run Coach Jamie

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your running journey. When did you start?
My running journey began after I graduated college. A colleague invited me to start running with her after work, to catch up and decompress from our busy days. She was training for a half marathon and I had no idea what I was doing. After a few weeks of running, she encouraged me to run a 5K with her. As soon as I crossed that finish line, I knew this was just the beginning. Since then, I've run 2 marathons, and countless half marathons, 10ks, and 5ks.

2. What advice would you give to someone starting out on their running journey?
"Comparison is the thief of joy." On social media we can get caught up with the comparison game. We have to remember that every running journey is unique and personal. What we see on social media is a snapshot, and in many cases, just the highlights. No matter your speed, or distance, body type, the list goes on- if you run, you are a runner.

3. Can you share some of the benefits of having a run coach?

-education behind the training process eg- implementing speedwork,  how to fuel your body and injury prevention
-a personal cheerleader: encouragement, accountability, and support every step of the way

4. Best running advice you ever received.
Slow down - and enjoy the journey.
We often focus on the races, and the end results. But the journey can be so powerful and memorable.

5. What is your running mantra?
Run the mile you're in.

6. Who inspires you to run?
My entire family. I believe when you run a marathon, your family trains with you, too. They hear all about it, and are there every step of the way.

7. Favorite song to workout to?
Anything I know the words to. I also love songs that bring back happy memories, like college.
My favorite band is Foo FIghters

8. Favorite running memory?
The New York City Marathon. It was the most challenging race I've ever done.  I almost DNF- Around mile 25, I spotted my family and cried. I was hungry, sore, exhausted, and cold. My family ended up finishing the last mile with me. We crossed the finish line together- I will never forget that moment.
